Day of Silence…

I went to taps…thanking those that were there, that are still here.  And was going to quietly take the day to be with my freedom.  Visit family, look up friends…eat candy. The only thing that made me sad about today ( even if the whole day is a sad day to begin with ) is that I did not venture into the poppy debate.  If fact to avoid hurting any and all that would be involved, I opted out of the poppy this year.

Not to say that I don’t have a urge to run into the next 7-11 and pin as many on as I can.  The whole argument is the Red Queen all over again.  I understand, it seems entertaining and it helps thrust the Veterans in the centre of the room again. This will be the talked about for a few years to come.

Slowly we are kissing good-bye those that were there for the First and Second.  A little poppy to me is not showing my support.  My support was given this morning as I stood beside a 89 yr old Soldier, who proudly wore his colours and bars.  Who thanked me with a wink, when we shook hands good-bye.

Wear which ever colour pleases you most, but do more then that.  There are less and less who are willing to wake up to Taps on Nov. 11th.
